Doubts and uncertainties

Muitos membros aqui usam a palavra 'doubt' um pouco incorretamente, quando 'uncertainty' é uma palavra melhor. Na verdade, as regras são flexiveis, mas acho que o aviso abaixo talvez ajude.

To doubt ou To have a doubt: Alguém disse que algo é a verdade ou que vai acontecer, mas a gente tem uma dúvida. 'Doubt' sempre desafia uma declaração, mas pode ser um declaração interna, na mente. Por exemplo:

He said that Venus is larger than Earth, but I have some doubts about that.
I doubt that I'll go to the beach, because it has been raining all day.

To be uncertain ou To have an uncertainty: A gente não sabe o que é a verdade ou que vai acontecer. Por exemplo:

I am uncertain whether to use 'ainda' or 'mesmo' in some sentences in Portuguese.
I have an uncertainty about what to say when I meet my girlfriend's parents.

Ao invés de 'uncertain' a gente pode dizer, por exemplo:

I have a question about whether ...
I have a problem with ... (or about ...)
I don't know if ... (or whether ...)
I am not sure if ... (or whether ...)

Gíria e expressões sobre 'doubt' quando há algo que você não acredita:

I'll believe it when I see it.
Tell me another one. (uma outra história falsa porque será divertida também)
Bullshit!
You are pulling my leg.
You are having me on.
Do you think I was born yesterday?
