Expressões populares

[David Stephensen]

Recebi uma apresentação com fotos retratando expressões populares. A gente teve que adivinhar a expressão pela foto. Com minha colega de línguas maravilhosa, Anjaluz, escrevi este blog. Algumas das expressões inglêsas são as mesmas das portuguesas, e algumas são similares ou só relacionadas. Note: As expressões aqui são usadas na Austrália e é posível que os norte-americános não as conheçam. "=português" significa que a expressão inglês é a mesma da expressão em português.

To be stood up	Quando a gente espera, mas a pessoa nunca chega

Engolir o sapo

spin = fiar
yarn = história
gild = dourar
perch = poleiro
draw = escolher (mas sem saber qual)
straw = pedaço de palha
fuss = rebuliço
squeaky = rangido
gooseberry = um tipo de fruta
wild goose chase = uma caça para um ganso do mato
witch hunt = uma caça para uma bruxa
